Janet D. Shearer Fine Art

Welcome! I hope you enjoy viewing the art and reading the content on my site. The opportunity to share my work with you is appreciated.

Here you will find images of work completed over the last ten years or so. Although, I have been painting since I was a teenager. Favorite subjects include ballerinas doing what they do, rural southern landscapes and still life with flowers or fruit or whatever looks pretty to me at the time.

Color and light are what attract me in selecting subjects. I love the deep shadows made in bright sunlight and by stage lights. The way stage lights alter colors also fascinates me.

Depicting subjects as they really are is important to me. For example, if a dancer is strong and muscular, I want to show that rather than change her body to match some ideal ballerina image. Her beauty comes from her hard work, from her dedication to making art.

Making art is a gift from God. Whether dance or visual art or music or something else, creating art reflects His image. Hopefully, what you see here provides a glimpse of the beauty of God's creation.
